Professor Spiros N. Pollalis

President of Athens College

Since 2023, Professor Spiros N. Pollalis, ΜΙΤ SM’79, PhD’82, is President of Athens College, a position he also held from 2010 to 2017. His leadership focuses on preserving the tradition while bringing innovation to this emblematic institution as it enters its second century. Enhancement of the academic programs and academic excellence, character bulding, and socio-economic meritocratic diversity are the three pillars of the strategy of Athens College. Prof. Pollalis encourages the use of technology in both education and administration and has partnered with the Fulbright Foundation to engage scholars in various positions at the school. 

Spiros N. Pollalis is Professor Emeritus of Design, Technology and Management at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. After graduating from the National Technical University of Athens, he continued his studies in the US and received his PhD from MIT and his MBA from Northeastern University. He has taught as a visiting professor at universities in Greece, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. His research has focused on urban planning, environment, and regional development. Under his leadership, his Research Center at Harvard developed the Envision® system for infrastructure sustainability assessment, which has become the defacto standard in public projects in the US and worldwide.
