Co-founder and CEO of Optimems
Angelina Bintoudi is the co-founder and CEO of Optimems, a spinoff that builds hardware-and-software platforms for energy management in microgrids and virtual power plants. Under her leadership, Optimems has earned a series of high-profile distinctions: 1st place at the StartSmart SEE accelerator (Dec 2023), a spot among the Top 10 Startups at Web Summit Vancouver as the sole non-North-American entrant (May 2025), and the national #1award from the National Bank of Greece’s NBG Seeds competition, selected from more than 400 applicants (Jun 2025).
Before launching Optimems, Angelina completed the integrated Diploma (BSc + MSc) in Electrical & Computer Engineering with a specialization in Power Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (July 2013). She began her career in the aerospace sector at SITAEL-Hellas, designing satellite power supplies and power-processing units for European Space Agency projects.
Since 2017 she has been a research engineer at CERTH/ITI, contributing to EU-funded Smart Grid projects. Her work spans AC microgrid day-ahead optimal scheduling, real-time supervisory control, and embedded primary control for robust active–reactive power sharing between renewables and distributed storage.
Angelina is currently pursuing a PhD at Aristotle University, developing fault-tolerant, isolated cognitive DC microgrids for specialized applications. She has authored 35+ peer-reviewed publications, holds an h-index of 11, and focuses on AC/DC microgrids, resilient stand-alone power systems, power electronics, and robust control.
